Solid Waste

The city accepts most trash through its curbside solid waste service and convenience center south of the city.

We have certain specifications on what can be collected curbside and what must be taken to the city's convenience center and recycling center. All regulations can be found in Ordinance 2017-14 in City of Belen Muncipal Code Chaper 8.01.

While our service is for city residents and businesses, as an extra means of maintaining the beauty of Valencia County, the city also makes the convenience center, where trash can be hauled and dumped, available to all Valencia County residents.

Belen Recycling Center

The recycling center is located at 501 Bernard at AC Disposal.

Hours

  • Open Saturdays, 8:00am to 11:30am
  • Open Wednesdays, 8:00am to 4:00pm
  • Closed on official holidays

Recyclable Items Accepted:

    • Paper - white paper, newspaper, and magazines
    • Plastic - #1 and #2 plastic (must be clean, rinsed, and empty)
    • Cardboard - Corrugated, chipboard, and paperboard (must be clean and dry with no grease stains, pizza boxes are considered contaminated)
    • Tin Cans/Aluminum - (must be clean)

*Loads Must Be Secured and Tarped

The recycling center is operated by AC Disposal Service Inc.

Special Trash Pickups Available

Citizens of Belen are allowed two FREE large item pickups per year. Contact Belen City Hall at (505) 966-2730 to schedule a pickup time. If more pickups are needed or if the load is considered a bulky item pickup, contact Universal Waste for additional services at (888) 726-0027.

Transfer stations new hours:

  • Sunday-Monday Closed
  • Tuesday-Friday 8am-3pm
  • Saturday 8am-1pm

We no longer sell dump passes here at City Hall, if you are paying with cash you can buy a dump pass at 2308 Highway 304, Belen, NM 87002. If you are using a credit/debit card you can go to the transfer station and they will take that form of payment. Thank you and have a great day!
