Risk Manager/Safety Specialist

THE CITY OF BELEN is accepting applications for:


Risk Manager/Safety Specialist

Minimal Pay: $15.60


SUMMARY OF DUTIES:  This position is under the direct supervision of the Human Resources Manager.  As Specialist, performs risk management and safety administrative oversight and document processing.  Plans, developments, implements and evaluates safety policies and procedures governing work activities of each department.  Incumbent assumes overall risk and safety management responsibilities to include; minimize and coordinate employee Worker’s Compensation injuries, Investigates accidents/incidents, vehicle/building inspections, documents discipline, employee safety training and workers compensation management processing, with the ability to perform work in a busy multi-tasked office environment.  This position normally works 40 hours per week Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., and must be available to work evenings, weekends and holidays when required.



  • One (1) year experience in the management of state or municipal community services to include OSHA, Risk Management and Workmen’s Compensation.
  • One (1) year working in an office environment.
  • Associates degree in a related management field.  Experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Ability to plan, implement administrative and technical functions.
  • Ability to develop and implement safety policies and procedures.
  • Able to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing with persons of all ages, varied socio-economic status, city supervisors, other local agencies and the general public.
  • Knowledge in the operation of a personal computer using appropriate hardware and software.  Data entry, report processing and data presentation skills a must.
  • Experience in the management OSHA requirements, Workers Compensation, staff safety development and preparation.
  • Bi-lingual skills (Spanish) preferred, but not required.
  • Possess a valid NM Drivers license.
  • Ability to successfully complete background screening and drug testing to include annual random drug screening.
