Employment applications for positions at the City of Belen are available on line.

These forms are available in Adobe format and can be download and printed to be completed by hand or filled out on line and printed. To apply for any of the open positions listed here, follow these instructions:

Water Assistant Supervisor-Water Level III

Water Assistant Supervisor-Water Level III

Minimal Pay: $18.05


SUMMARY OF DUTIES:  Performs administrative and first-line Assistant Supervisory duties related to planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating the day-today maintenance, repair and operations related to water supply, treatment, transmission, and distribution.  Assistant Supervisor is responsible to manage the installation, maintenance and repair of water system(s).




  • Graduation from high school or GED.
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in a field directly related to above duties: two (2) years of which must have been in a lead/Assistant Supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of education, certification and/or experience.
  • Considerable knowledge of water systems, principles of supervision; construction requirements for water and pumping systems; hazards and precautions associated with trench work and water and sewer fine construction; state or federal regulations governing installation and maintenance of water systems; budget preparation and fiscal management.
  • Ability to analyze water/sewer system(s), identify problems and determine optimum solutions; make accurate decisions in emergency situations where consequences of error could be costly.
  • Plan and Organize work of subordinate personnel; evaluate employee performance and make related decisions for the good of city service; enforce related policies, procedures, regulations, and standards without bias; develop effective working relationships with elected officials, public and private managers, department heads, subordinates and the public.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule with minimal supervision.
  • Currently hold and maintain Water Systems Level III Certification.
  • Must be willing to work shift work, including weekends (be on call, 24 hours per day).
  • A valid New Mexico’s driver license required.
  • Must complete a background investigation.
  • Must pass drug and alcohol test and subsequent random testing.
